About the film

Not Alone.

In March 2020, Sophia Eng drove home with three hens in a cardboard box and made a promise that her family would never again have to feed seven people on three eggs a day. Her mother had already lived through the fall of North Vietnam and then Saigon, and she knew the warning signs. The Engs built a fenced, solar-powered homestead in California and found it lonely. So three generations moved to East Tennessee. There, a neighbor and his sons fenced their land for free, a local dairy couple taught their daughters to milk, and seventy people showed up to game night on a week's notice. The film is about what self-sufficiency really takes, and the answer is each other.
